Fetal Development Month by Month: Month 6

Your baby's oil and sweat glands are functioning, and if he or she was born during this month, it could survive with the proper care. He or she weighs approximately 1 1/2 pounds and has grown several more inches to just over 1 foot in length.

Accompanying your growing belly will be tight, itchy skin. Daily application of a moisturizing lotion can help with this discomfort. Remember to wear supportive, low-heeled shoes because the extra blood flowing through your body will cause your extremities to swell. If you notice dramatic swelling over a short period of time, call your doctor since this may be a sign of preeclampsia.
