Packing for the Hospital Checklist

Packing your hospital bag prior to your due date will ensure that you will have all the items necessary to be comfortable during your hospital stay. Your bag will include a wide variety of items ranging from your birth plan to socks, so consider the following checklist to help you pack for the hospital.

Items Mom-To-Be Should Pack for the Hospital

Required/Recommended

Your birth plan
Toiletries (toothpaste, deodorant, soaps, lotion, chap stick, comb/brush)
Nightgown and/or pajamas
Robe
2 to 4 bras and/or nursing bras help swollen or tender breasts in addition to keeping breast pads in place
3 to 6 pair of underpants
Slippers in case you need to walk around during delivery or make trips to the nursery to see your new baby
Socks

Optional

Hair clips to keep your hair back during labor if it is long
Going home outfit
Extra pillows or blankets if you need them
Reading material, music, or games to keep you entertained
Lollipops or hard candy to keep your mouth moist during labor
Sanitary pads; these are provided by the hospital but you may want to bring your preferred brand so you're comfortable
Cord blood collection kit (if you decide to collect your baby's cord blood)
Small gifts for the nurses or other children at home
Scented shower gels, body power, or make up which may help you feel better after labor

Insurance card and any hospital paperwork needed
Pajamas
Change of clothes

Cord blood banking kit (if you decide to collect the cord blood)
